Did You Love Someone Today?
Article published December 2014 issue of KUOMagazine.com

Did you love someone today? Did you say a kind word to someone hurting; or open the door for a lady whose hands were filled; or tip that hard working server at the takeout window? Did you kiss your toddler as you dropped her off at the daycare; or encourage your teenage son who is having a tough time at school; or pamper your spouse when she came home from a stressful day? These are the expressions of love, looking beyond your own needs and towards the needs of others. That’s why love is the quintessential expression of the human soul at its best, because it enables us to be concerned and caring for one another. Love also has a unique reward system in that the more you love is the more you receive love - so did you love someone today? If not, the opportunity to love someone is now. But you say, I’m reading this article at home by myself; there’s no one else here, I’m all alone. However, are you really all alone? Here’s a secret, there are two entities that you always have with you, God and Self; which means that you are never truly alone. You can always express your love for God by praising and being thankful to Him, and you can express love for yourself by appreciating who you are, and by exploring the wonders of what makes you unique among all other people. Go ahead and have an inner dialogue with yourself. At other times you will talk to Self, which is the presence in you that makes you self-aware - that is aware of your own existence. At other times, you may end up talking to God, for God dwells in you by the indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit. You may also find that deep within, there are several layers of Self (the complexity of the human personality); but always do your best to find the Voice of God – that’s the source of the Greatest Love of all. So, the question again is, did you love someone today?
